Children in Need @ World Options

This month World Options took part in raising money for Children in Need at their support centre in Clayton-le-Moors, Lancashire.

The support centre is the head office location and hub of the online shipping provider; World Options. As well as helping customers with their shipping requirements, the enthusiastic support centre staff are always looking for ways to raise money for worthy causes, and this year was definitely one to remember.

Customer Support agent Layla Cummings nominated herself the duty of transforming into Children in Need mascot; Pudsey for the day, and collected donations from all departments. Other members of the team took part by coming to work dressed in bright yellow Children in Need glasses and jumpers.

All staff members donated towards this worthy cause and got into the fund-raising spirit with competitive activities throughout the day.

The first activity took us back to our school days where the art of flicking a rubber band at a target was mastered. Now fast forward 10 to 20 years and this art seemed a lot harder than originally remembered. But in the spirit of raising money for charity, World Options staff took to the challenge, aiming at the target and collecting scores to find a winner with the highest score.

Never has this simple task been taken more seriously, the competitive spirit within World Options staff came out and at one stage the scores were neck and neck between Training Director – Richard Ormerod, Franchise Technical Support - Michael Masseer and P.A to Directors - Bernie McAskill. But a last-minute contender Franchisee – Kieran Kyme, who took the final shot of the day ended up with the highest score hitting the bullseye and winning top prize of a photograph with mascot Pudsey!

The second activity of the day was the doughnut eating competition, where participants had to eat doughnuts the fastest without using their hands while it dangled from a piece of string.

This was a challenge with no skill involved, just a ferocious appetite for a sugary baked treat. Pudsey took centre stage as chief doughnut dangler and referee, and the games began.

After several donuts had been devoured handsfree, we reached the final with Customer Support agents - Mark Collins and Hayley Eckersley having beaten all other opponents by devouring their doughnuts fastest. But Mark had the competitive edge over Hayley and managed to devour his doughnut in record time, becoming winner and the fastest doughnut muncher at World Options.

Collectively World Options raised £70 for Children in Need and had a lot of fun doing so. It is especially encouraging to have been involved in Children in Need this year following the announcement that the charity has raised over £1bn since it began the annual fundraiser in 1980. Thank you to all who took part and donated.
