Tell us a little about yourself
When I’m not at work, I home educate my three sons, who are aged 10, 11 and 14. They’re all working on their GCSEs and are busy with a range of clubs and activities. I’m also a Cubs leader, which keeps me busy!
We live in the New Forest and we’re fortunate to be able to spend time every day exploring - we live close to Lymington Harbour, so we spend time on the beach or on the water too. I read lots and prepare lessons and activities for my children in the evenings, which then allows me to work three days a week on my franchise.
What did you do before becoming a World Options franchisee?
I was a full-time, stay-at-home mum. Prior to having children I worked full-time in insolvency.
What attracted you to becoming a franchisee?
I wanted a second income, but I was also committed to continuing to home educate my children - so running my own business was the perfect fit! I also wanted to show my children that everyone has to work - I feel great about setting this example to them.
What are the benefits of working as a franchisee?
I honestly love what I do. I love going out to meet prospects. I love setting up accounts. I love all of that side of it, but equally I love coming home and working on science projects with my sons in the kitchen. World Options allows me to fulfil my goals of home educating my sons while also providing a full-time income on part-time hours.
In addition, it has meant more time for me and my husband. My husband works shifts and so World Options again is ideal since I am not out at work all day every day. In the years prior to World Options there’d be days we barely saw each other since he’d be home while I was out at work and vice-versa.
One of the greatest benefits is being able to work when and wherever - last year we went on holiday for a month and I was able to work every day while we were there. I took calls and responded to all of my emails. It really is a dream come true.
What advice would you give to others considering becoming a franchisee?
My advice would be to do it! As a mother who needed an income, and also my own identity outside of the home, World Options is absolutely ideal. Cold calls can be made while young ones nap or at go to school, and emails can be responded to wherever you are at all.
It takes time to set up. And if you do have children at home it can take a little longer to see success than those who can work their franchise all day every day but it DOES work. Suddenly things begin to fall into place and successes begin to happen. It is wonderful.
Would you have any specific advice or top tips for other women who are considering working for themselves?
Be patient. It doesn’t happen overnight, but anything worth having rarely happens without hard work.
It is wonderful to provide an income and to feel successful. Just do it. I did it. I doubted myself at first, but it really is wonderful. I honestly feel like World Options has allowed, and continues to allow, my family to realise our dreams.
